I took a look at the past 10 years and not a lot of 1st round picks have nothing next to their names in terms of NHL appearances.
Regardless... we don't need young guys right now who can fill out the bottom of the roster. We need young guys who can eventually fill out the top of the roster (and belong there) for years to come... we're almost definitely not going to get that in trade for a 1st round pick we might (probably won't, but might) get it from actually making the pick.
We need to make a play for greatness not just goodness.
