If another team is giving up a youngish player with the potential to have an impact today and in the future, they must not think that highly of him.
The only consistent way to acquire elite talent, especially for Canadian hockey teams, is through the draft. That is unquestionable at this point. Maybe it's only a 5-10% chance that a late 1st round pick turns into a star, but that's exactly why the Flames need to make more draft picks and higher draft picks.
This team needs to draft more than any other team over the next three years. They need to lean into it.

TBF he said "with a late pick". So Gaudreau, sure (as late as they come) but not Tkachuk, who was 5th and should have been 2nd. And with Gaudreau, pretty much any team has those kind of miracle picks. The Flames have several.
