In that 2020 draft, the Flames had Zary, Perreault, Bourque on a tier which is why they were ecstatic to move down two spots, knowing they were guaranteed to get one of their guys (all of whom they had asked higher than Lapierre too). Masterful job by Chris Snow and Craig Button in preparation and in convincing Treliving to seek a trade-down opportunity.
Too bad they blew the additional pick on Jim Cummins’ guy, 0%er Jake Boltmann…but you judge trades using information known at the time of the trade, and it was flawlessly executed.
One of my favourite draft-day memories as a Flames fan celebrating that live, while many on CP were quite upset at the trade.
