I think in the future GMs are going to want to think those requests over carefully. Like "you can talk to see what their offers might be but you can't tell them they are out of the running". Which is hard to control, but GMs talk to each other. Agents are going to have to be careful too, because they will risk burning too many bridges. Brisson may have screwed Hanifin here and he might be in the Gaudreau situation in the off season - no offer from his desired team and underwhelming offers from other places. And no 8 year deal, obviously.
