I get what you're saying but doubt players in this era feel obligated to payback to the organization.
Personally, sign him to a fair contract that works for both sides. I will be extremely angry if he walks or wants to go somewhere else given how accommodating the Flames have been.
I'm hoping the payback you're referring to is that he feels obligated to commit to Calgary.
