First off - happy that the team has committed to a full rebuild. You can sell Markstrom, you can keep Markstrom - either way this thing has been burnt to the ground. The only difference is whether or not we will have a top 5 pick next year or in 2 years. If it's in two years it will just take longer before the team is good again.
I also agree that the rebuild success will depend on the teams own top picks. It will be the success of the top 5 picks that build the foundation.
Outside of that, we have a bunch of magic beans, some draft picks, some projects. Best case scenario, you get another 1st rounder for Ygor in a year and you get another 1st or 2nd for this Russian prospect in two years.
Would everyone have felt better if we got a 2025 1st, 2026 conditional 1st/2nd and a conditional 2nd/3rd?
Most optimistically the trade chain here could turn this into Backlund, Andersson & Regehr. At worst we just got Poirier/Klimchuk/Wotherspoon.
Either way I am excited because there is a rebirth to look forward to.
Will say...those on the Edward's doesn't pay retention for assets have another example to hang their hat on...
