I think the Knights do plan on trading that pick, but if that doesn't pan out, plan B is to give it to the Flames instead of an unprotected pick in '26.

I don't really see the difference. Would a team they are trading with really see a huge difference between a 2025 1st rounder or a 2026? The Flames didn't.
If they offered Calgary a 2026 1st round pick with no conditions they still make the trade.
