As far as the throw in player?
Remember when Sharangovich was a bench warmer in the playoffs? Ya good times.

I have stressed that the strength of this organization is their drafting and development. They are leveraging that nicely. I would have liked to see a bit more come back in this trade, but overall, this is a huge injection of assets, and the cupboards weren't bare to begin with.
Who knows? Maybe they get some lotto luck in 2026 and end up with McKenna? At any rate, Calgary continues finding players throughout the draft. They have hit on high-end players outside of the first two rounds as well. Calgary will be drafting their new core.
As well, the next couple of NCAA free agents will probably be looking at signing here as they will have an easier path to the NHL, including promising them games and burning a year off their ELCs.
Another area that Calgary can suddenly find itself profiting from is from the KHL. Maybe they get to sign the next Panarin. With suddenly have a contingent of Russian and Belarusian players in the organization, maybe this can be a landing spot of sorts for some UFAs from there?
At the end of the day, this team didn't have the horses to compete. Now they can go draft their horses. The draft will be exciting, as well as following all of these prospects and watching them grow.
The most important thing that they have done is leverage what they are best at, and that's drafting and development.
