He was given that contract to score goals. Yeah he is on a really good defensive line, but thats not what 5.8M is for, nor is he the driver of said defense on that line.
He is a 40 pt under sized winger who makes way more money than that should require.
29 goals in his last 142 games.
Coleman has 25 in 61 this season alone for a million dollars less.
On the same line.
Sorry...Mangiapane is not under valued "around this site", he is in fact over valued instead by many.

He's paid to produce at 5v5, not just score goals at 5v5. And for the most part he's produced at 5v5 about what expected.
He's third on the team in 5v5 points among forwards with 26 (behind only Coleman and Kadri).
Those 26 points also tie him for 81st in the NHL among forwards...with notable names like Ryan O'Reilly, Ryan Nugent Hopkins, Clayton Keller, Chris Kreider, Tyler Toffoli, Pavel Buchnevich, Cole Caufield. Or 1 5v5 point behind Matthew Tkachuk.
He get's blamed on this site not for what he is, but for what people wanted him to be. People wanted him to be a 30 goal, and 60 point winger...which is fine, but it was always going to be tough for him to do that without top unit PP time and more ice time overall.
As it is he's easily a top 6 forward in the NHL (there are 192 top 6 forwards by defininition in the NHL, and this would put him around the middle of the pack being ranked 81st in points)
Moving him 1 for 1 for Cody Glass who has all of 10 points this season would be a big mistake.
