Flames paying even lip service to Hanifin and his agent is fine with regards to finding a sign and trade deal, it's part of the game and reflects well on the organization in the future with the agent and other players.
Though I'm pretty certain this path to check in the teams he wants to sign long term with has only started in this case, becuase the rental price is set by the Flames and a lineup of teams is willing to pay the price on Friday.
Tampa or whoever else who may want to sign him long term, has to do better than that price and they have a couple days to do it, or less.
All part of the plan.
