My point is locking up your best player in their prime years to a market fair deal is a great contract in itself , regardless of the cap hit . $500k-1m either way doesn’t really matter
10.5 or 11.6 it’s still a great deal Vancouver vs the alternative. He also would have gotten much more on the open market (as basically every high end UFA who goes to market does)
You can have a great deal that doesn’t always equal “extreme team friendly contract “
