Unless you think there’s some kind of conspiracy out there among media* across North America to discredit Murray Edwards, it’s a plausible explanation. Something derailed a deal that was - according to multiple sources - very close to done. And Seravelli is not the only person who has commented that Markstrom’s frustration went higher than Conroy.
* Actually, there does seem to be a bunker mentality among a lot of fans on this site that the rest of the league, the officials, the networks, the media, etc. all have some kind of vendetta agains the Flames franchise. First Seravelli, now Freidman can’t be trusted, they’re getting played by the Devils, etc.

I don't believe there is any sort of slant against the Flames.
But i do think that the following could be true:
- Edwards has meddled in the past (strong evidence and examples of this)
- Historically the team hasn't retained salary (also true)
- Edwards may be one of the reasons for that (unknown)
So when the deal fell apart, it's not hard to connect the dots to likely causes. In this case, a likely cause would be that Edwards got involved and refused to retain based on past examples. But that doesn't mean that's what actually happened.
Friedman's report this morning very much felt like a case where someone said something to him, that perhaps was more speculative than real.
But at the end of the day we don't know. I do have a lot of faith in Sec, and what he says. I think he provides legit intel so I tend to buy into what he posted today.
