Default Buying a used jeep; need advice

This will be a second vehicle used for weekendsummer fun and won't venture on much harsher terrain than a logging road with drainage ditches. It will also come in handy if we ever get the crazy snow like we did this year.

My budget is about $8000. It looks like if I stick to a V6, I could either afford a 95ish YJ with decent mileage (160k or so) or a 97-98 TJ with higher mileage (200K+). If i go 4cyl, though, I can get a 98-99 TJ with around 100-120k on it.

I know the V6 is a much more powerful engine but for my limited useage will I notice the lack of guts in the 4 cyl? Fuel consumption means nothing to me because it won't be a daily driver.

So I guess I want to know is, is the TJ dramatically better than the YJ and can I get away with a 4cyl in either the YJ or TJ? Also, I'm pretty sure the atuomatic trannys suck, but if anyone has experienced otherwise, I'd like to hear about it
