That doesn’t seem overly confirmed to me, that seems like speculation.
Friedman also throws a lot at the wall and his source on a point doesn’t always come from inside the room. Pretty easy for someone like Fitz to put out to the media that Calgary pulled the deal in order to save face himself.
People who are obsessed with owner meddling and the Flames “not rebuilding” despite trading Lindholm, Zadorov, Toffoli, Tanev, etc. want to believe this, sure, but it doesn’t track.
