The mild surprise for me was Phanuef, never been associated really with the Flames alumni at all since he left, but good for him to come back.
Sutter was glad to see. Obviously no way Kiprusoff would've ever made it here without him. But Sutter doesn't do token things just because someone (from the Flames ) asked him to be on the ice. Don't think he was there for Iginla's, for example. So, he got asked and wanted to be there or Miika asked him to be there. For me this is akin to the Phanuef draft hug.
We came to the realization last night that there is unlikely to be a jersey retirement for the Flames for a while. Unless Gaudreau comes back tomorrow and picks up where he left off two years ago for the next 5-6 years, or one of the current roster goes on a tear for the next 5-7 years and wins a Cup or two (even then it's 10 years at least before they have a ceremony) it's 15 years from now at least for the next dominant player to play for the Flames have achieve top success as an individual and as part of a team, and then get a ceremony.

I go back and forth on Gio. He's not a HOFer, but undrafted, years of service- and was a trophy winner at his best. probably not (and not saying that's wrong) but...
