Except that storms have NOT been becoming more frequent or more powerful.
I've been following this for decades. There's an
inverse correlation between average temperature and the prevalence of hurricanes and tropical storms. A 2023 study published in
Nature calls this correlation ‘robust’:

The mechanism behind this change is quite well understood.
EDIT: Storm
damage has been increasing, despite the decreasing number of storms, due principally to the skyrocketing number of idiots who build McMansions in hurricane country and expect their insurance to bail them out. My sympathy for such people is sharply limited.
