I have worked in establishments where I was far and away the most educated person there, however, Joe Blow who has worked that job for 10 years is without a doubt significantly better at it than I. The thing is, after 6 months with a proper work ethic and attitude I am ready to not only do the same, but overtake that long time employee.

I dont care what the advertising slogans for post-secondary are, I will always maintain that University (and University specifically, not all Canadian colleges and not trade schools) doesnt teach you how to get a job. It teaches you how to learn and think. Thats what is really important, anyone can tow the line and get a high school diploma, but you had better be willing to put up or shut up for a university degree worth its salt.

But thats just my attitude and opinion, so take it for what its worth and you'll get your money's worth.

Locke.
I agree especially with the piece bolded in red.

I was talking to my younger sister yesterday about this whole Diploma vs. Degree issue and she's a in Grade 10 and what she said to me in a way shocked me. She said if I can't do well in highschool then there is no point and no way I'll do good in University. I compeletley disagree with that, University is much more different then Highschool the biggest difference being you will be (hopefully) studying something you have a passion for, and passion is what will drive you too succeed. IMO that is what happens when you stress just a Diploma, first we're teaching that a Diploma alone is enough, and secondly we're saying if you can't get a Diploma then you really aren't worth anything, which is so not true. Like someone mentioned earlier you don't even need a Diploma to get into University especially if you're a mature student.

Overrated: Dr. Phil

Does anyone hate him as much as I do?? His show seems to be getting more and more dramatic and he says the same boring things over & over again.
