Same as the retention conversation... taking the Devil's struggling goalie back in the trade isn't a problem, as long as they are willing to pay the price for it.
Throughout this saga it definitely seems that the gap between the Flames and the Devils is on whether or not the Devils are willing to pay appropriately for (1) a vezina-contending goalie, (2) multi-year retention slots on said goalie or (3) for sending low value assets with term back.
It has been a very exciting exercise discussing how this trade should play out as it is really uncharted territory. Vezina contending goalies never get moved, especially at the trade deadline, and doubly so with term left on their contracts. Most goalie trades involve 1A/B goalies or backups.
I really hope we are blown away by the return on the trade or that it goes away and we commit to keeping Markstrom and silencing the gossip. Either path is good for the Flames in my opinion but it needs to resolve quickly, which has been a failure in the process thus far.
