Thats a cold way to look at it, and I'm sure the Flames don't, but I think its entirely reasonable to go short term and for less dollars as a show of good faith. And as I mentioned, he needs to play a year with as little stress hanging over him as possible. Another big ticket, long term deal may not be what he needs.

Sure, but if I am Kylington I just go sign a one year deal with another team for 3 million. Maybe come back to Calgary the year after if they want to up their offer. That is a lot of money to leave on the table if he decided to take a league minimum contract. Not sure why the Flames would even do it, they are going to be nowhere near the cap next year.
