I knew that friend of McLennan's who died in the road race. Young guy, ex-goalie at a high level, he was a very junior member of my law firm at the time. He died so unexpectedly, and so young that I'm sure his family had little in the way of savings, etc. That was great of Kipper (and I never heard about it until today).
McLennan tells another story about how in practice Sutter didn't like Kipper sending huge rebounds out to the point (Kipper was trying to send pucks to teammates). So he told Marcoux to tell him to stop. Kipper responded by sending one way out over the blue line. Sutter got mad and fired a puck - at Marcoux.
