It could be a home run, yes. It could also be a disaster, if the situation we saw over the last couple years returns. Obviously, no one wants to see that, but it would be prudent to move with caution.
Also, the player has to agree, and you can count the number of 8 X low-dollar contracts that have been signed over the years on one hand, and still have some fingers to spare.
I think 2-3 years in the $2.3M range is appropriate. The only way I would offer him a raise would be if he took more term (3 years).
