The story was compelling, the acting was solid, the effects were brilliant, and it was just the right balance of giving your brain a mild, entertaining workout while hitting you in the feels.
I will say that, generally, I was more entertained by a film like The Martian, but Interstellar left me with more to think about and process.
Since I'm on the space kick I'm going to try another I've left on the shelf too long: Moon.
