All these trade are to add bullets and depth to the organization . But you need some top draft picks to rebuild the high end talent pool of this team
This year is another missed opportunity to do it and pushing a proper rebuild out 1 year IMO
I am very happy with what Conroy is doing , but if (when) we finish 13-16th it will hurt long term . This is why you can’t half arse a rebuild . You need to refresh the top end talent and hoping for diamonds in the rough isn’t how you do it
Get the top players with top picks , and hope you find a diamond or 2 in the rough to add to the high drafted core

I been saying this all year, it would be better to get a lessor return if we got deals done sooner and ended up with a top pick. Patience has us picking outside the top 10 now. It's not impossible to build a contender without a top 5 pick, but you need to be drafting better than anyone else and you need some big time home run picks if you miss out on getting the top picks.
Teams that get the top picks need to manage their team well, but they have all the same opportunities to hit some home runs with late picks too but also have way less pressure as they are very likley adding stars with their top picks.
Sure, the Flames are better than teams that are in full tank mode, but a big part of our success this year are on declining assets. Weegar, Coleman, Markstrom, Kadri they aren't getting better, and we can only hope they maintain for long enough that we can trade them, or we are on the rise again and they can contribute. IMO if you can add assets for these guys you take the risk out of them declining before we are stuck with them again.
Teams that are in full tank right now have Bedard, Carlsson, Fantilli, W Smith and have similar prospect pools not including the stars listed already.
I love what Conroy has done; he's sold near a playoff spot which never happens for the Flames. But we need to keep it going, Markstrom likely is a Flames in October next year if we don't trade him this deadline. We will be too good for a top pick again next year if we do that or he plays terrible, and we can't move him.
