You can't.
I'm not sure how the whole deal shook out in the paperwork, but I do know that the Devils included Cole Brady (a college goalie in his senior year, whom they apparently had no intention of signing) to make the deal possible. I am told they had to actually give up some kind of tangible asset to be eligible to take on retention.
