The value is what the value is. And the value is very similar to previous deals for similar Dmen. Again - personally I think Tanev should be worth more. But the market decides that.
I suspect Conroy re-canvassed the interested teams and had clarity that no 1st was forthcoming. So he might have got a better condition on the second pick, or even a later pick thrown in. But you are risking that the market shifts, as other dmen become available, or Tanev becomes injured.

That's a good point, the market dictates the offers.
Still the Flames got younger with a player they feel has strong fundamentals.
We have a coach that seems to be working really well with the young
core defenseman we have coming through the ranks. My guess is the Flames feel this guy has a good chance of developing within our system. We've got good skating defenseman that can jump in, but having a solid stay home defenseman that makes simple plays is it good complimentary piece. I really like that this coaching group is really looking at the finer details of what's really needed.
