But the Pettersson was clear at the start of the season: Nothing during the season and he's sticking to that, even if the team has checked every box he put out there at the start of the year. Dhaliwal's opinion changing isn't a "I think he's leaving" that you think it is. It's a "I don't know anymore" because he doesn't, but also he never did. He is just as in the dark on this as every one else. And like I said before, it isn't just about Pettersson not signing. It's now also about does someone make an undeniable offer for Pettersson? There are suddenly more avenues for Pettersson to leave than there were three months ago and some of them are the team making a decision to not wait on him to make up his mind. This was not something people anticipated last year.
As for Lindholm being a plan B, that was a ridiculous notion when two sports radio dweebs put it into the world with no proof. There was Halford and Brough spitballing. That was it. Lindholm is not a "Plan B". What you move Pettersson for is the Plan B. Lindholm was the Canucks deadling acquisition target since early November when the Flames stumbled. He was the Trade Deadline Plan A. Not "If Petey Leaves" Plan B. He's too old and asking for too much while not being a play driving center. A marvelous defensive center, but not what you replace Pettersson with.
The Canucks know they only have one major mistake they can make in this situation and that is walk Pettersson to UFA. They can make a bad trade, they can sign a bad deal, but neither of those are as devastating long term as walking him to free agency.

Welcome to the little house of horrors we've been living in for the past two years with our players.
It sucks..
