I kind of hear what you are saying, but, if you were to sign him and then trade him to somewhere he doesn't want to go would be a real Hackey type of move. I'm also pretty sure he wouldn't sign anything without knowing where he was going. I wouldn't, I'd just shut down all signing talk until free agency if that sort of crap started happening.
