All he’s doing is getting one less playoff run out of Markstrom. Instead of 3, it’s 2. And the Flames have zero reason to reduce the price. Especially if Markstrom ends up as a Vezina finalist.

New Jersey could instead see if one of the upcoming UFA goalie options signs with them in the offseason instead. They'd get to keep Mercer, Holtz, picks and prospects if they go that route.
