A Flames team that has a 90 point Huberdeau and made the playoffs last year and was on track to make the playoffs this year does not trade Markstrom. It is almost unheard of for a non-playoff team to have a stud goalie, they are almost always on playoff teams. That is why they don’t get traded.

Goalies become available at UFA time all the time though. Why, because there is always another one coming behind them. Teams that don't have good ones have options. Markstrom became available because of Demko and now available again because of Wolf.
