Yeah, but they almost got him at a point in time where acquiring him would save this season. It would take the sting out of losing a ton of assets if he did drop off a cliff. Now they don't have that safety net.

Only stands to reason that you would be willing to pay more for 3 playoff runs, than 2. Which is why I don't see it getting done in the summer, because NJD won't be willing to pay as much, and the Flames have no motivation to take less.
