Mercer for Markstrom is fair, I hope Conroy does better, but the Devils aren't in must win the cup now mode yet is all I'm saying. Why would they pay a ton more? Would we want that as Flames fans in a couple years loaded with stud young players to trade a ton to get a 34-year-old goalie? Probably not.

If the Flames had all their stud young forwards signed longterm, had two top 4 dmen on RFA contracts for two and three playoff runs respectively and had the chance to get a stud goalie to capitalize on this confluence of events and had an excess of talented forwards anyway, yes, I would hope the Flames be smart enough to know that paying Nemec a base salary of 918K for the next 3 playoff runs, Luke Hughes a base salary of 925K for the next two playoff runs that that is a unique circumstance that one should try to capitalize on.
I guess one could always wait until both those dman make 8 million a year and then get a goalie.
