I should have used green text. The Devils play in arguably the weakest division in hockey. For sure if they can get into the top 3 they will have the weakest first round matchup of an 2 or 3 seed. With their lineup and potentially Hamilton coming back to the lineup in the playoffs they could go on a run.
Getting a goalie with term extends their timeframe by two more years. Without a goalie it looks doubtful that they will make the playoffs and if they do they could well be in a WC spot playing one of the Rangers or the Panthers/Bruins.
To me it is a no-brainer to get a goalie and get one sooner rather than later. If they are still 5 or 6 points out at the deadline they leave themselves 20 games to make that up. They almost certainly are at the part of their rebuild where they should be showing confidence in the rest of the guys and trading a third line RW or a 4th line RW with the appropriate rest of the futures to give themselves their best shot.
