FWIW, Mercer hasn't played much centre this year. When he does, it is on the 4th line, otherwise Lazar plays 3rd line centre, and Mercer is on the RW. Not to say that he couldn't transition to centre or anything, but apparently he is mostly playing on the RW. I noticed a few Devils' fans hee-hawing about that too saying: "Wait until Calgary finds out he isn't a centre." Regardless, if the Flames are targeting him specifically as a centre prospect, then they must feel he can be a centre, otherwise they are targeting him as a young and productive player. I am sure it isn't some secret to the organization.
