Or any of it's variations like:

"Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it."

Its all nonsense.

Humanity is going to continue making the same mistakes over and over and over again. Its just our Nature.

We've learned nothing.
How’s the saying go… you have three different type of people:

A person watches another put their hand on the hot stovetop—>

1. The person watching the other decides to also do it, just to make sure their reaction was correct. They realize it’s hot and never does it again. Most people fall into this category. I believe it’s around 80% of the population.
2. The person watching the other sees their pain when they touch the stovetop and decides not to touch it since it’s hot. 10% of the population.
3. Then there’s the third person. They are dumb enough to watch, do it themself, but instead of never doing it again, they complete the same mistake over and over again. 10% of the population.

This is a good analogy because it shows that people have to experience themselves to fully understand the consequences. Unfortunately when it comes to authoritarianism, the consequences are so dire, you don’t have a ‘redo’ or ‘next time’ option. And unfortunately for Russia, they seem to fall into the same trap every time
