I'm not saying that. I'm just irked a bit that it seems our only trading options are in the top third of the standings.
CBJ got the 6th overall and 12th overall in back to back drafts from CHI (who were not a playoff team) for Seth Jones. The only thing is I'm not sure if his MNTC kicked in before the trade or not. If it did, then maybe he didn't care about going to a non-playoff team or something (which Hanifin very much will care about).
VAN's pick is going to be mid-to-high 20's. If we send Marky to NJD, then they're going to move up the standings and maybe even win a round or two, which will be low-20s.
I don't even know what we're doing with Hanifin, but I doubt he's gonna waive to go to ANA or OTT or... actually isn't he from BUF? (nope he's from BOS lol).
Tanev, I'm not certain we'd get a 1st for him unless it was to another top team who's desparate for a defensive, shot-blocking D to help them go deep in the playoffs (so another pick in the 20s at best).
Like, I get it... I'm just bitching about "cleaning house, but still not picking even once in the top 10."
I was under the impression that this draft sucked outside the top 13ish, but Sandman says the whole first round is good, and he knows his stuff, so I feel a bitt better.
(I still can't help but imagine what could have been if we'd moved guys earlier and played most of the season with an AHL team and no Markstrom keeping us in evey game. Like, it seems to me getting Celebrini would have been worth getting lousier returns from our trades.)
But again, though, I do feel better if the whole first round is as deep as Sandman says.
