It answers the call locally on the device, and as it records the voicemail you can see the live text transcription so you can interrupt the voicemail to answer the call if you want, like what the family answering machine on the landline use to be like. it's also very amusing when i get a call from Chinese scammers and the live voicemails just take the word and makes them English... not actually translating them, just taking the closest english words that sound similar to the chinese ones.
