I always find adding draft picks to a deal to acquire a higher draft pick an interesting study in valuation. Do teams value that pick on its own? Meaning, at face value adding a 2nd to Chris Tanev to get Toronto's 1st doesn't sound completely unreasonable, but when you consider that, if it's Calgary's 2nd, there could only be 15 to 20 picks separating the 1st and the 2nd. Is moving up 15 spots worth Chris Tanev? Now I don't really think so.
Then again draft picks aren't exactly linear in value, so maybe the Flames see a player in that grouping that they really want, so its worth it to them.
Anyhoo, when multiple picks are involved going back and forth, I find it interesting to try and evaluate the valuation.
