I don't think that Phillips has enough skill to make it in the NHL in a top 6 role, and he obviously doesn't have enough to offer in a bottom 6 role. Maybe he continues working hard and continues developing, and over the next few years he comes back into the NHL like Ryan. Not out of the question, but I don't think he has the skill level to be an effective point producer on any team.
What he can be very good for is an NHL team. I think Pelletier, for instance, developed a little bit better because he had Phillips to play with in his rookie season. I do think that players like Phillips who are at best, NHL tweeners, but have good off-ice habits and have an above level of skill make for good line-mates to help develop young prospects.
