I’m just not sure if the cost is the same in the summer. I guess if Conroy has decided the price for Markstrom is the same now or in the summer and his price won’t go down no matter what. Goalies are such voodoo… right now, Markstrom is the hottest goalie in the league. This summer and going into the 2024-2025 season, no one knows for sure what he or any goalie would be. In the last 5 years he has consistently alternated great seasons where he is in the Vezina conversation with terrible seasons where he would be considered a guy you would have to add assets to in order to trade. His value is the highest it has been in years so selling him now is probably the best return you can get.

The fact is though, Conroy could just choose to keep him and just have him around to transition Wolf to being the starter. It would probably be a great strategy both for Wolf and for the team. So the incentive to trade him has to be high whether it is now or in the summer or during the season next year, etc.
