The owners egos are so fragile that they can't handle not getting the attention first
All the promotion and marketing is towards the players and coaches - who actually do the damn work to win the thing - to have fans connect with them emotionally, but the climatic moment when the trophy is handed is to someone no one anyone knows.
The only owner I feel that would be justified in getting the trophy first is Jerry Jones. Because he IS the Cowboys.
The NHL fumbles on a lot of things, but the Stanley Cup presentation is one thing that they beat all of the other North American leagues at.
