It's a nothing play. The fact that it generates such a reaction both in the moment and in the day to follow is embarrassing.
Sure, slapping the puck into an empty net does not show personality. But the point is that a pathetic unwritten code precluding a slap shot into an empty net validates the notion that hockey is kinda lame and most hockey players are feckless bores.
