Holtz is just arriving right now. It'd be an excellent time to get him.
You have to look at the established trade values of goalies. They don't get moved often in situations like this.
Ryan Miller effectively returned a 1st and 3rd. You're in that ballpark, and Holtz > 1st + 3rd.
The conversation around "well then the Flames won't trade Markstrom"...I mean, why not? The organization is better off with a move like that. Conroy has been actively clearing the path for a youth movement, and this aligns - while adding probably our best young player (excluding Zary, but I'd put Holtz about on par with Zary). The Flames have to clear the path for Wolf, they have to - and giving Vladar more work could also be massively beneficial. This would return the best value while doing that.
Trading Markstrom now for a reasonable return (say value of a 1st + 2nd) is proactive management. Adding a Holtz (or a Mercer) is the closest thing Conroy will get to a 'fast forward' button he'll find on building this team back up.
