It's a certainty that every young goalie comes into the league and will go through a period of struggle. Somewhere in between the 50-150 game mark. Video analysis is so good that it forces these goalies to make adjustments. Some manage to do it (i.e. Demko, even Price) and some don't (i.e. S. Mason, Blackwood).
Currently, phenom Devon Levi is rocking a .891 save percentage with no one to lean on.
The goalies who can make these adjustments while being able to lean on a good vet benefit greatly (i.e. Saros w/Rinne, Shesterkin w/Lundqvist, Price w/Halak)
You can even argue Skinner benefited from having Smith around (gross).
IMO, the value of having Markstrom around to maximize the talent level of Wolf long-term exceeds the assets #25 will bring back.

Demko was backup to Markstrom for a couple of years, was he not?
I completely agree with the mentoring and easing in approach. Not everyone can be Mike Vernon and take the ball and run with it
