Flames are probably trying to use guys like Dunn, Toews, Hughes as comparables that are around $7.5M...while Hanifin's camp would point to Sergachev, Heiskanen, McAvoy etc.
I still feel like $8.0M is a stretch for Hanifin on the open market but looking at it more I think $7.5M is likely doable on a 7 year deal in UFA for sure.
Worst things to build around than a Hanifin-Weegar, Kylington-Andersson d-core. (Also that Weegar deal was a great signing and sometimes gets overlooked because the Huberdeau contract is bad).

I don't think the Flames should build around those 4. IMO none are elite on the PP and the Flames need someone that is if they want to become an elite team. You can make a case Weegar is the only one who is high end on the PK too.
Hanifin is good 5 on 5, but he and OK probably are the least valuable on the PP/PK. OK isn't getting anywhere near $8 mil and Hanifin probably brings back a haul from teams that already have elite players but need a solid guy behind their stars.
