I agree with this line of thinking. If I bought two or more tomatoes, I would say "I bought tomatoes at the store", but if I bought two or more cases of beer, I would say "I bought beer at the store"
"I bought beers at the store" just doesn't sound right to me...
Edit: However, "Let's grab a couple of beers after work" sounds a lot better than "Let's grab a couple beer after work" .... ahhh, I'm so confused.
