I think the thing is "that price" is the equivalent of $5M a few years ago and it's going to look even better in 3 years from now. Though I'm no cap expert.
His hit is 5.9% now - arguably too low. The expectation for 25-26 is a cap of 92M and that's as far as I've seen projected. So $7.5 will be an overpay if his value to the team is the same. But maybe not as much as people think.
