It’s possible the tanev deal gets done closer to the deadline because, at that point, a team will have the best possible handle on how high in the draft that first round pick will be. Dallas is a great example. Right now, the best their first round pick could be (if they finished the season in the spot they are at) is 25th overall. Big difference if they went on a tough run over the next month and that pick could be as high as 19th overall.
I could see the deal becoming a conditional 2nd/1st round pick… with the conditions being weaker than the Lindholm trade for the 4th becoming a 3rd. I could see if being a 2nd that becomes a 1st if the acquiring team makes it to the 2nd round and Tanev plays at least 4 games in the first round.

It depends on how the playoffs go. Not sure why anyone would do a Tanev trade if they don't have designs on going to the Conference Finals, in which case the pick is 29-32 regardless of the regular season.
