Secondly, he seems to be a guy who made decisions with the mindset of "I'm the boss." Conroy alluded to this in previous interviews as well. I'm not saying he didn't consult with his staff, but ultimately made moves under this premise. In a way you can understand that a GM can't have decision paralysis and makes the final call either way, but perhaps others were against these moves (for obvious reasons) and he decided against their advice.

Also, I think Tre (and maybe ownership too) took Gaudreau leaving and Tkachuk's declaration of leaving personally. The hockey world were laughing at Calgary. He wanted to not only get new players but sign them to long term deals to prove that Calgary is a desirable place to play long-term.
