Especially when the player we signed has never had anything to do with that team ever (ie. acquiring the negotiation rights a week before FA starts, etc).

The trade was terrible for the Flames, but lets not get into hyperbole here. Flames gave up 1st rounder. Monahan re-signing with Montreal to a show me contract is not on the Flames. That's a UFA signing. By that logic, if we trade Tanev for a first, that would somehow be a knock against Vancouver for letting him go UFA.
