There's more than one kind of toughness in hockey. Joe Nieuwendyk didn't hit much and rarely took penalties, but he took more punishment than most players just from standing in the goal mouth and looking for tip-ins.

Like I said, I made peace with the trade at the time because I genuinely thought Monahan's career was going to end imminently. I thought his days were numbered and it was a low number.
I really like him as a player and I'm glad he's healthy and finding a resurgence, I'm just pissed its not with us.
Its similar to Tanev, it just feels like any game could be his last, being held together by chewing gum and hope.
